[ Now that it's Cordis, Doumeki has to keep himself busy while Yashiro is out and about... ]
Sounds good
[ He attaches directions to a bar on Level 3. It's a weirdly outdated karaoke bar, which is apparently Doumeki's new favorite hangout. He likes loud places. ]
[ Riou hasn't been to this place before, so he looks it up to make sure it's reputable. He's only just met Doumeki and he is both a survivor and a soldier, so it's best to be prepared. Ultimately, he decides any concern he had was likely paranoia and he sets out.
When he shows up, he's wearing camo pants, a white tshirt, a black bomber jacket, and his usual boots and dog tags. At the entrance of the bar, he stands still as he scans the bar for Doumeki. ]
[ It's good -- it doesn't actually occur to Doumeki that most people avoid Level 3 for a reason. Well, he knows, in a way, but Level 3 feels more like home than the suburban feel of Level 2, so it just seems natural to spend more time there. It's not like anyone is going to pick a fight with a guy like him.
Doumeki meanwhile is dressed in his usual suit and tie, though he's slung his jacket over the back of his seat by the bar.
He waves a hand at Riou, a simple gesture as he simply locks eyes with him. Words? Who needs words? ]
[ Once Doumeki is located, he comes over and gives him a pat on the shoulder and a smile to say hello. He does say something, because while there are many things that can be communicated without words, there are some things that just can't. ]
What's best on tap?
[ It's a new bar to him, but he assumes Doumeki knows what their best beers are. ]
[ Doumeki nods in response to Riou's greeting, waving the bartender over to take his order. Unfortunately, well, Doumeki's not much of a connoisseur of beers. He gets whatever's darkest and most expensive because he's rolling in chroma. It helps that it tastes good, too. ]
I prefer the Amegaharan brand. Inari Black.
[ It has a dark, rich color, which Rious should be able to tell from Doumeki's own glass. Of course, Japanese beers are his favorite. He's a simple guy. ]
[ If he didn't have a recommendation, Riou would've just ordered a beer flight, but he nods and orders that. He probably would've ended up with something similar anyway, Riou also is a fan of Japanese beers. ]
[ That's a lot more thinking than Doumeki would have done. He really did ask for the darkest beer they had, then worked his way there. He takes a sip of his beer and nods, motioning to their surroundings with just that motion. ]
I discovered it recently. It reminds me of home.
[ It's kind of seedy, but only in that neon-sign and 80s karaoke machine kind of way. Of course, it's probably owned by some criminal enterprise, but that wouldn't bother him. ]
[ Riou nods. He can see why. It's not exactly the kind of place that Riou hangs around at, but it's not the kind of place he wouldn't visit with Samatoki and Jyuto. It could be fun. ]
Do you come here often?
[ It's a brief question, but Riou thinks it will tell him a lot. Does Doumeki like to drink a lot, does he miss home, and so on. ]
[ Perhaps it's the moons, or the way he and his boss have gotten more comfortable with each other, but Doumeki is doing more on his own lately. Even if he thinks maybe Yashiro would enjoy a place like this. He casts a quick look around, then takes a drink. ]
It is comfortable.
[ Predictably unpredictable. If a drunken fight broke out, Doumeki would stop it and sit right back down to his drink. ]
Do you ever feel that no matter how you try to rationalize it, you still find a way to be upset over someone who has found their way back to their home world?
This world is better off than ours. We're free here. I worry about someone who was taken back there suddenly, even if it's where we both came from.
[ He's gone to SOLON instead of Riou again, and Riou can't blame him this time. Riou has been burying himself in working on the greenhouse, in keeping busy to deal with this whole situation. He suspects Jyuto may have been doing the same thing.
The fact that Samatoki is where he is intended to be and that Samatoki now has a chance to save his sister, that he's back home with.. Riou and Jyuto, somehow, but not the two of them, not exactly (even if the memory theory is true over the parallel universe, are you really the same person if you do not have all of your memories? Riou doesn't think so). None of those sit well with him. He wants Samatoki here. Which may be selfish in its own way. Riou doesn't have a say over this and he knows it. That Jyuto feels the same and wants to share it with a fictional hacker that Riou used his Navy codename for is upsetting.
There is nothing he can say that doesn't get personal. There is nothing he wants to say if Jyuto still feels that it's better to go to an anonymous person instead of the person he's closest to. Or perhaps, Riou is the only one who feels that Jyuto is closest. He can't blame him, and yet it still hurts that he didn't.
Regardless, it's not something he can process right now. It's not something he has a right to process. He's a soldier, first and foremost, and that's what he should focus on. And so, he answers as simply as possible. ]
[ Not a lot to it, is there? Jyuto takes the short responses into consideration, regretting that he'd sent the message at all. If he'd worried that those around him hadn't wanted to talk about this, that he'd be bringing them down with the weight of it, of course he'd be putting SOLON out of his way. It isn't as if he knows Samatoki, or has earned this kind of conversation. Jyuto thinks he's pushed him too hard. ]
I'm sorry to have unloaded that on you so suddenly, it was rude. Anyway, I have a task for you involving some recent gang activity, if you're interested. I'd like you to try and help me pinpoint their base, if possible.
I will help you, but I want you to answer a question.
[ Riou knows he should just let it drop. Just try to drive him away from Solon and hope that the person he goes back to is Riou, but he can't just leave Jyuto on his own like that. There is no part of any mission that leads to him needing to do that outside of his own self-interest. ]
Why did you share that with me? You have someone who is going through the same thing and you went to someone whose name you don't know.
I can't let the others left behind think that he might not be okay. If they know that I'm worried about him, then they'll worry too. I've only heard anything from one other person post his disappearance, someone of which he'd had bad blood with due to their history.
I'm not interested in commiserating with Samatoki's foes.
[ That much he shares, but it takes him a while to decide what he wants to say to the rest. Jyuto is an intelligent man. He's police, a moon knight, a sergeant. He didn't get that by being stupid. Riou knew it was only a matter of time. If Jyuto is worried about him still, he may never contact him the next time something is wrong. ]
I wanted to surprise you the first time I used my call sign instead of my name. The first time you opened up to me, you didn't feel comfortable telling me then. I couldn't tell you that you already had. I want you to feel like you have someone you can talk to. I don't like that you don't want it to be me.
It isn't an excuse, I'm just not used to having anyone want to hear those kinds of things from me. Until I met MTC, I didn't depend on anyone else. I felt like I couldn't. I liked being strong by myself. If I'm honest, I still like being strong by myself when I can because it's what's comfortable for me.
[ The incident with Daniel Dickens. Jyuto had managed to lace himself back together fairly well enough without drawing attention to what had happened, but it's coming back to haunt him. Karma wants him to tell Riou. It's punishing him for being so solitary, so secretive. ]
This isn't a conversation for text message. Where are you now? Are you free?
[ And if Jyuto isn't home, Riou isn't home? Is his home Riou's home? Jyuto finds the phrasing here that Riou's used as interesting, but assumes he's overthinking it. ]
[ He sure af wouldn't be living in an apartment if MTC wasn't there. Jyuto's interpretation of his words isn't wrong, even if it wasn't a conscious word choice.
Riou doesn't text back and instead gets his gray fuzzy boot-slippers on to come across the hall to Jyuto's apartment. He doesn't bother knocking and lets himself in, looking for where in the apartment Jyuto head settled himself before coming to him. ]
[ Oh! He had wondered when Serge would be ready. It's been some time. Having never composed with a piano before, he wasn't sure how long it was supposed to take. He's expecting good things, though. ]
[ it isn’t supposed to take this long, but composers also aren’t usually trapped on a sex planet. ]
I’ve rented a studio for us. Here is the address.
[ he attaches it, and it actually only took him like a whole year to now to figure out how to attach an address and a time, like a memo. he’s so technologically advanced. ]
[ That's all he sends back. He will be there with his combat boots on, ready for battle. Or at least to listen to the composition because Serge put a lot of work into it, even if it can't be turned into physical damage the way a hypnosis mic can do with rap. ]
