You should consider it. I have experienced both memory loss and regains; it is difficult to tell when you will remember your promise. If it is on record, you will not lose it.
Hello this is Riou, yes? I'm Tsutsujimori Rosho from Osaka division I'm the person who you helped get rabbits out of their apartment. Could I please ask you for a favor? I would be willing to repay you somehow it's very important!
I heard something about how there's cookies growing on trees somewhere? If you could look into this for me and bring me as many cookies as you can gather I'd really appreciate it!
I love sweets so I really want to, but I got into some trouble the last time I went out to do something. Going outside the city by myself still makes me kind of nervous.
[ It's what happens when your dumb ass gets stabbed. 😔 ]
That's so funny!! Even Hitoya-san thought so! [He just nodded at it which is Hitoya's own way of indulging Jyushi but he nodded so that obviously means he gets it!!]
I think this one is really funny, too!
Isn't that really cool? I didn't see him at all! At least until he moves!
[ The response takes a fair amount of time, which even Riou is impressed with. Some animals truly are good at what they do. He would love to have met this animal. ]
That was challenging. I do not know that I would have seen it had I not known what I was looking for.
[Hijikata was happy that Riou was coming along on the dangerous lakeside expedition to Elphame. If things went south he'd be a reliable supporter! However even Riou could hardly do anything about the two titanic creatures that decided to kick off a fierce battle right in front of the exploration party, nor about the resulting massive storm waves.
After Hijikata wakes up in an underwater town and gets a run-down of how everybody was saved at the cost of turning into sea monsters he's now taking tally of all the expedition participants. He already has many names (or, in the case of people from Camelot of Celliwig he doesn't know, descriptors like "tall blond fae who kept laughing at how bumpy her alpacapy ride was") ticked off his list when he comes across Riou. He pauses... for maybe a moment too long.
Whatever powers there may be, they must be taking the piss on them. After that hard-to-forget Iris moon night on Prismatica it looks like now he's the one with the tentacles, whereas Riou makes a nice merman. Don't stare!! Yeah, he knows and you know, but don't say anything!! Don't even think anything!! He clears his throat and slithers his way over to him with his list (it's written on a small handheld whiteboard with water-proof marker).]
Riou, have you seen any of these people? Those without a checkmark?
[No preamble, no "I'm glad you made it", not comment on the monster battle that got them in this situation in the first place... he's trying hard to keep his focus on the task at hand.]
ten years later lol sorry i'm so behind aksjdhklagd
[ There were times when a good soldier knew retreat was imminent for the survival of the mission and that success would need to be obtain another one. Though he did not always succeed in his mission, he always completed his tasks to perfection and always found another path forward to achieve the ends of whoever was commanding him. Iojaku, MTC... it didn't matter, as long as it was a cause he believed in. A cause worth dying for.
Riou looks impressed that Hijikata was able to find something to write with under water and compile his list. He's resourceful, which Riou respects in a man. And it's something to focus on other than their mutual experience with tentacles. At least if Hijikata gets too tentacley, Riou can openly admit he is not sure how to service such a problem while half of him is a fish. ]
These two.
[ Riou points at the two names, one of them probably being Kirstein. ] It is strange not needing to breathe underwater.
It's all good, this is like the post-season special flashback episode!
[Hijikata hasn't even allowed himself to think far enough ahead to ponder such potential obstacles... but it's a struggle. Why is Riou so handsome?! And why is Hijikata so messed up in the head?! Surely a normal person wouldn't immediately wonder what it'd feel like to run a hand over that smooth fish tail-- ugh, he really needs to concentrate.]
It sure is strange... but I've done something like this before, back when Bucca was having that nudibranch problem.
[He ticks the two names off his list.]
Okay, almost everyone is accounted for now, and I got confirmation a few minutes ago that the latest search of the perimeter still hasn't yielded any bodies, so I'm tentatively optimistic that everyone made it.
[That's honestly almost too good to be true, but is seems like the locals did a stellar job at organising the rescue once they noticed the sudden influx of drowning land-dwellers.]
Seeing how people are leaving as fast as they can we should be on our way soon too. I'll just make one more round.
The lack of casualties is a feat I'm not sure could be accomplished by many. I have questions about such rapid preparations for potential drowning victims, but there is no time for thorough interrogation.
[ Hijikata sees it as too good to be true, and Riou is in a similar state of mind, with a less trusting penchant toward paranoia. He's the kind of man who booby traps his own campsite, after all, and has captured his own leader on more than one occasion because of his thoroughness. The idea that they were practiced at taking away the breath and forms of land creatures was unnerving. ]
We should mark and return to this location at a more opportune time. I'll accompany you on your round.
[Leave it to Riou to be paranoid like that... he has a point, though. Just how often do people get shipwrecked around these parts? But as Riou said, there's no time to investigate that further on this occasion.]
Sounds good to me. For now let's just count our blessings.
[He slithers on, secretly happy for Riou's company. The few non-natives they encounter are already accounted for and more or less on the way out, which Hijikata encourages by downright rushing them. When it's just Riou and him again he takes the opportunity to address the incident that landed them down here.]
Those huge-ass creatures... one was an umibouzu, I'm pretty sure, but that massive centipede I've got no clue about. Some kind of lightning beast? Do you have any idea what the hell they attacked each other over? A territorial battle, or..?
[In fairness, Riou probably knows no more than he does, but then he does get around in the wilderness a lot. Perhaps he at least has a better ability to gauge strange creatures' behaviour if nothing else.]
[ Being in the wilderness and seeing animal behavior is one thing; witnessing an umibozu (he agrees with the assessment of it) and a lightning bug (some kind of raiju? he thought they were said to be much smaller though) in battle is another. ]
I'm no expert in mythology, but I believe Umibozu ask for barrels. Centipedes look as if they are constructed of tiny barrels.
[ It's not the best explanation in the word, but to be honest, he doesn't know enough about the situation or the environment the battle took place in to make a more sensible call. ]
[ Riou is speaking calmly with the deinosuchuses, and if Hijikata weren't busy, he would actually hear Riou mentioning how his skilled friend was wrangling a very strong wild pig they had captured for him.
He gestures to him at exactly the wrong moment as his 'partner' in this is rolling around on the ground. Eventually, he gestures to Hijikata to come over with the pig. Hm. He thinks it may be insulting to Hijikata's pride to offer assistance before he gets to the water after that display rolling around on the ground, so he just leaves getting the pig to the water to him, giving him a confident nod and a thumbs up to encourage him. ]

Happy birthday.
I didn't know.
It sounds like you had a very good birthday though.

But thank you. It really was great. The best one, actually.
Out of curiosity though, when is your birthday?
no subject
Do you plan on wedding here?
no subject
We haven't discussed that far yet. Maybe? Depends on how things go.
